Configuring MacOS on AWS with Terraform
You can create a MacOS machine via the AWS cloud with Terraform support for provisioning. When setting up the machine, you can select a VNC or SSH connection protocol. The launch time for a MacOS machine will typically range between 6 to 20 minutes.
To access the MacOS machine, contact your customer success manager or CloudShare support.
The number of concurrent environments permitted varies based on your subscription quote with AWS.
Note
Mac instances are compatible with various versions of the MacOS operating system:
- MacOS Mojave (version 10.14): Supported on x86 Mac instances only.
- MacOS Catalina (version 10.15): Supported on x86 Mac instances only.
- MacOS Big Sur (version 11): Supported on both x86 and M1 Mac instances.
- MacOS Monterey (version 12): Supported on both x86 and M1 Mac instances.
- MacOS Ventura (version 13): Supported on all Mac instances.
Note: M2 and M2 Pro Mac instances support macOS Ventura version 13.2 or later. - MacOS Sonoma (version 14): Supported on all Mac instances.
Before you begin using your MacOS machine, please be aware of the following:
-
Minimum Allocation Time: The minimum allocation period for a MacOS machine is 24 hours. After the initial 24 hours, usage intervals become flexible.
- Suspend/Resume: The machine does not support suspend/resume functionality due to the lengthy process of completing scrubbing workflows, which takes approximately 2 hours.
- No Revert: Once a dedicated MacOS machine is allocated, it cannot be reverted back to its previous state due to billing constraints associated with recreation events. If MacOS is enabled for the project, the AWS environment will not be reverted, but the GCP and Azure environments will be reverted.
- Terraform Usage: Dedicated hosts for MacOS machines can only be created using Terraform.
- Environment Termination: Deleting the Environment has a significant impact on the AWS account assignment and release. If MultiAccount is enabled, the account will be reinstated upon the release of the dedicated host.
