Set Up Instructor-Led SaaS Training
CloudShare supports full-featured training for SaaS applications, enabling you to quickly create a class that gives each participant direct, segregated access to our application.
Instructor-led SaaS training can use all of the familiar tools and customization features available in our powerful Environment Viewer.
When a user accesses the VM for the SaaS application, CloudShare hides its OS and all browser interface characteristics. Instead, the user accesses a pre-opened SaaS application in "kiosk" mode.
CloudShare supports the use of dynamic URLs for assigning VM instances. This means that you can automatically create SaaS training sessions that will be personalized to their current user. For more details, see Customizing a SaaS Template here.
Before setting up SaaS training, you need to create a CloudShare custom environment that uses the out-of-the-box dedicated SaaS template and becomes the basis for the Blueprint and Snapshot that will be used for training.
Note
You can add multiple SaaS VMs to an environment, and even can combine them with any other VMs.
To create a SaaS training class:
-
Create a custom environment. While adding VMs, select the SaaS Infra Templates tab and add a SaaS Template machine from this tab to your environment.
This adds a machine to your environment that will run a browser pointing directly to your application URL, without exposing the OS or browser to the user.
If needed, you can add more than one SaaS VMs. Each will display a different SaaS application.
Add any additional VMs required for your environment and complete the environment creation steps. When preparation of the environment is complete, the new environment's Details page will be displayed.
-
Customize the Viewer by clicking Edit Environment > Customize Viewer from the actions on the right side of the Details page.
Several advanced customizations are automatically applied to all new SaaS VMs,so the Customize Environment Viewer page will open in Advanced Settings mode.
Perform the following:
Customize the name of the SaaS Template tab in the list of tabs. Click on its name to overwrite it. This is the tab name users will select in the Viewer in order to access the SaaS application.
-
Assign the URL for your SaaS application, and, if needed, the environment machine address. For details, see Customizing a SaaS Template here.
Important
This step is essential since it determines where and how users are directed to your SaaS application.
You can define a dynamic URL by selecting and appending formatting variables to the field:
-
Assign the Instructor URL for your SaaS application.
By default, the Same as the participants URL checkbox is activated. However, if you are using formatting variables to make that URL a dynamic field (as shown above), you should activate the Set a different URL for the instructor checkbox and enter a static URL that will be dedicated for use by the Instructor only.
-
Set the Start tab in full screen option to ON or OFF.
When set to ON, the tab opens initially in full screen mode when selected. Once the tab is open, the user can toggle between regular and full screen mode as usual. If the user navigates away from the tab and back again, the tab opens again in full screen.
Optionally change the Default tab. This is the first tab the user will see when viewing the environment. To change it, from the top of the left side menu, click General Configurations and select the desired tab from the Default tab dropdown list.
Make any additional Environment Viewer customizations, like editing the Overview tab or adding training materials to the Resources tab.
Click Save to save your customizations.
-
Return to the Details page of your environment and preview the updated environment by clicking View from the actions on the right side of the page.
Tweak and preview your viewer customizations until the environment looks exactly how you want it to look for your users.
When environment viewer customization is complete, create a Snapshot of it. Be sure to select the Set as default checkbox in the Take Snapshot form.
Create the class, specifying the blueprint that contains the snapshot you have just created.
After have created your SaaS training class, you can register users as needed.
