Using Analytics Dashboards

CloudShare analytics dashboards are both intuitive and very easy-to-use. Following is an overview of dashboard basics to get you started quickly.

Viewing Dashboards

To view a dashboard:

  1. From the Analytics menu, click Dashboards. The Dashboards panel is displayed.

  2. From the list, select the dashboard you want to view. Dashboards are organized by folder.

  3. Click a folder to expand it and then select the dashboard inside the folder.

Filtering Dashboards

The Filters panel on the right of the dashboard provides data filtering options that affect the data displayed in the widgets. You can change these filters to focus on more specific data.

Dashboards and widgets that are provided pre-designed by CloudShare are all filtered by any filters you see on the dashboard. If some of your dashboards and widgets were designed by your own team (possible with special user permissions), you may find that some were designed to be filter-independent and therefore do not respond to filters. 

You can perform the following actions when using filters:

Changing the Filter Selection

Each filter enables you to choose the subset of data you want to display in a specific data category.

For example, if you are viewing a resources consumption dashboard, the Use Case filter lets you select which types of experiences to include in the data you are viewing on the dashboard.

Toggle the arrow icon next to a filter to display its selection content in different ways:

  • Highlight mode, to select all data subsets:

  • Checkbox mode, to select individual data subsets:

You can edit a filter to display only certain data subsets. Hover over the filter title bar until a pencil icon (Pencil_Icon.png) appears and click it to display a filter definition window:

  • With the filter in Highlight mode, you can then select or deselect complete data subsets to include or exclude from the filter.

  • With the filter in Checkbox mode, you can select or deselect individual data items to include or exclude from the filter.

Switching Filters On and Off

You can easily activate and deactivate filters using the toggle switch in the lower right corner. Use this option to compare states (with and without the filter), or to temporarily turn off a filter.

Restoring a Dashboard

You can reset the current dashboard to its default shared settings anytime.

  1. At the top right corner of the dashboard, click the options AnalyticsOptions_icon.png icon and select Restore Dashboard.

    A confirmation dialog will appear, informing you about the affects of restoring the dashboard.

  2. Click the green checkmark to confirm. The dashboard will be restored to its default state.

Drilling Down in Widgets

You can drill down in most widgets to get a more detailed breakdown of one or more selected items. When you drill down, the other parts of the widget (such as pie charts and data tables) are instantly updated as well, to reflect the newly selected subset.

Clicking to Drill Down

Generally, you can drill into most graphical items in a widget by simply clicking on them:

  • A slice in a pie chart

  • A bar in bar chart

  • A line in a line chart

Tip

In most widgets, briefly hovering over an item will display a box with relevant details about that item.

Dragging to Drill Down

You can also drag the mouse over a portion of a chart to include all of those items in your drilldown selection:

After making your mouse selection, click Select in the context menu that is displayed. All parts of the widget will be updated to reflect the data found in your selection. To clear your drilldown selection, click Clear Selection in the upper right of the widget.

Whenever you drill into a widget, the filters for that widget also will show all of the data items in your selection.

Using the Right Mouse Button to Drill Down

In the following example, the bar chart on the left shows a breakdown of environment runtime and GB-hour usage per environment. On the right side, the chart shows a breakdown or drill down of one environment's runtime and GB-hour usage of a specific environment, the 'Complete env for demo' environment, broken down by individual user.

To drill down into an item:

  1. Right-click on the item in the widget into which you want to drill down.

  2. To manually select the drill hierarchy path, select Drill Into, and then select the field into which to drill down. If you have already drilled into this chart, then you will have shortcuts to previously selected fields. You can also select Choose Another to select a different field.

    or

    Select a predefined drill hierarchy (if available).

To drill up to a higher level, click on a breadcrumb. To drill all the way up, click on the X icon.

Zooming In and Out

When a chart widget contains more data than can comfortably be displayed in one view, a zoom bar may be displayed under the widget. The zoom bar enables you to scroll right and left and to zoom in or out of different parts of the data. 

The dark gray handles at the left and right edges of the scroll bar control what is shown in the widget:

To zoom in to a specific area of the chart:

  • Drag the handles to position them immediately to the right and left of the area you want to display.

To zoom out:

  • Drag the handles further apart.

Resizing X-Axis to Expose Labels

The X-axis on a chart can be resized to reveal long or hidden labels. Drag the X-axis up or down to display more or less of the labels.
