Cross-Farm Collaboration with SharePoint 2013

Hi All,

Apologies if I'm posting this in the wrong place - it's a SharePoint general question as opposed to a CloudShare specific one.

My question is this :-

Is it possible to "follow" somebody within SharePoint 2013 whose profile / personal site is in a completely different farm?  I understand that the UserProfile service (as an example) can be shared across farms and domains provided the necessary trusts have been put in place (and this is the same with some other service applications).

We have a model however where we don't want to have a centralised profile store for all employees and instead have a 2-farm model.  Can Employee "A" on Farm A  follow / tag / collaborate with Employee B in Farm B and vice versa?
