    Hi David,

That's an odd problem, thanks for posting it.  I ran a quick update on your VMWare tools from our side as this can occasionally cause time discrepancies like the one you mentioned.

Let me know if that corrects the issue or if we need to investigate further.

Sorry, but the problem remains. I started a crawl at 9:16 AM Eastern time, but the log shows it starting at 6:16 AM.

Also, I noticed that if I update a file in a document library the last modified time also is showing a time that is three hours earlier.

As far as I can tell, I have set all of the time zones to Eastern.

I found what was causing the problem. Not only does the time zone for the web application need to be set, but the regional setting needs to be set.

    1. In your team site, click Site Actions.

    2. Click Site Settings.

    3. On the Site Settings page, under the Site Administration section, click Regional settings.

This issue is now resolved. Thanks for your help.

One gotcha is that the central admin site settings link to regional settings does not show. I got around this by copying the portion of the URL on my team site to the end of the central admin like this:

    http://sp2010:nnnn/_layouts/regionalsetng.aspx

where nnnn is the port number central admin runs on.

I do not know if this is a Microsoft supported way to modify the regional settings for the central admin site or not.
