Uploading Files to a VM
CloudShare’s Upload Files feature enables you to easily upload files to a virtual machine in your environment. With this feature, you can conveniently complete tasks by uploading files (including batch, integration, data and other types) and then use them during your training exercise or POC demo.
With the Upload Files feature, you can also upload configuration or executable files to work more efficiently with the files you need in the virtual machine.
Note
Files need to be uploaded per machine, per class.
Uploading Files to Your Class Environment
Within your environment, select the relevant VM, and then select File Upload from the menu.
To upload a file, click Upload Files. You can also drag and drop files into the specified area. While no limitations on the number of files or file types you can upload, there are some file size and naming restrictions.
-
Browse to and find the files you want to upload on your local machine.
Click Where are my files? to see where your files are saved. Your files will be placed in a folder called Uploads, which is determined by your machine’s operating system. For Windows, this is located in C:\Uploads; and for Linux, the location is the admin home folder, sorted alphabetically (we will choose the first admin user to run).
-
During the upload process, you will either see that your file is still being uploaded (with a blue circle notification); that there is an error (with a red circle notification); or that the file was uploaded successfully (green circle notification).
Tip
If the File Upload section is disabled in the sidebar, check to see that VMWare tools are installed on your virtual machine. For WIndows-based VMs, PowerShell Version 2.0 or higher is required.
Uploaded File Requirements
Uploaded files must meet the following requirements:
Files cannot be larger than 50 MB.
Filenames can only contain the following characters: a-z, 0-9, ‘-‘, ‘_’, ‘.’, and spaces.
If two files are uploaded with the same name on the same machine, the first file to download to the machine will be overwritten (if two upload requests occur simultaneously, it can also be the second one).
Tip
If the file upload fails for a particular VM, your training instructor or POC demo creator can access your environment details page and click the Resolve (Recommended) link, as shown below.
