Create Environments from Templates

Creating Environments in 3 Easy Steps

Plus the ability to Create an Environment from CloudShare’s Environment Templates

In our efforts to improve our usability and answer users’ requests, we are introducing a new method for creating environments.

In the new flow, you will have access to CloudShare’s full library of Environment Templates, a capability which was not present until now.

But this is just the start. In the coming months, we will continue to add more functionality to this flow to improve your experience and productivity.

Where do I get the new capabilities?

Under the ‘Environments’ menu, you will now have only a single option ‘Create’ (previously you had both ‘Create’ & ‘Run’). Within the Environments View, you will see a ‘Create’ button which has the same functionality.

Step 1:

The new method for creating an environment allows you to first define the starting point for the environment you wish to create. The following options are available:

  • My Projects’ Environment Templatescreate a new environment from one of the available blueprints in your Project. (this is equivalent to the old "Run" option.)
  • Create a Custom Environment – create a new environment from scratch by adding individual virtual machines from templates or upload
  • CloudShare Environment Templates – create a new environment by selecting from a list of pre-configured environment templates

Once you have selected what your starting point is, select the Project you wish the new environment to be saved to and the Policy that should apply to it. The policies that appear in the list are those that are currently available in the selected project (for more information on Policies, please see this article on Self Service Environment Policies

If you select ‘My Projects’ Environment Templates’, then the Project you select below it will show the templates under that project.

Once you have made your selections, you will be able to proceed by clicking the large blue ‘Next step’ button.

Step 2:

In this step you can select the Environment Template that you wish to have as your base environment.

  • Search for the desired template by typing in the search textbox. You may search by the Template Name or by the full Template Details which will search the text within the name or description of the template
  • Expand any of the environments to view the machines that are part of the environment
  • Select the desired template by clicking the ‘Add’ button

On the right hand side, you can view your available resources, as well as the chosen Environment Template, Project and Policy.

Once you have made your selections, you will be able to proceed by clicking the large blue ‘Next step’ button.

Step 3:

  • Add a Name to your new environment. This name will appear in your environments list.
  • Add a Description to the new environment. This will assist other users collaborating with this environment
  • Review the selected Project and Environment Template you have chosen in the previous steps.

Note: at any time during the environment creation process, you may click on ‘Start Over’ to cancel the current environment creation and restart

Once confirmed, you can complete the process by clicking the ‘Save Environment’ button.

Congratulations! You’re done!

You will be directed to the new environment page and CloudShare will start preparing your environment. This will take just a few minutes and you are ready to go.
