CloudShare gives Enterprise customers the ability to launch environments, provide demos and hold classes from data centers in multiple regions around the world (US East, Asia Pacific and Europe). If you are currently working from a single data center and would like to extend your activity to additional regions, please contact your Sales Manager or SE.
CloudShare makes it easy to keep consistent copies of your snapshots on all regions so that you can be sure to use the desired snapshots for new environments, classes and demos on all regions. This article is a guide to the features that help you do that.
We recommend you always prepare and edit environments on the US East region. You can then copy snapshots from this data center to other regions.
Note that copying is supported only from US East to other regions.
When you are ready to take a snapshot of your environment that you want to use for classes and demos, choose both of these options to ensure your snapshot is available for use on all the regions you need:
Set as Default - Check this to set this snapshot as the one that will be used as the basis for new environments, classes or demos. Environments for classes and demos are always based on the default snapshot in the chosen blueprint, as are environments created from a chosen blueprint. (If this is the first snapshot of an environment, it is automatically the default snapshot.)
Regions. Select all regions where you want to be able launch environments, classes or demos based on this snapshot.
After you click Take Snapshot, CloudShare takes the snapshot you requested. When the snapshot is complete, CloudShare copies it to the other regions you specified. After the copying is completed, CloudShare marks the snapshot as default on all regions.
Snapshots and copies take time, so we notify you at each stage. An in-product notification appears after each copy is completed. During this process, CloudShare does not allow another snapshot of the environment to be taken. When the entire process is complete, you will receive an email. In the event that the process fails at any stage for any reason, the email will specify the failure.
When the snapshot is copied and marked as default, you can proceed with launching environments, classes or demos using the blueprint that contains the snapshot.
To create the environment or class in its new region, select the appropriate project.
Regions are enabled per project.
Once the project is selected, the Cloud / Region option activates. You can select any region where the blueprint is available and then continue with the rest of the settings for your environment, class or invitation.
If a previous snapshot in the blueprint was already copied to other regions and you check "Set as default", then the relevant regions are selected here and you cannot deselect them. This ensures that all existing regional copies of the blueprint are updated with the latest default snapshot.
Similarly, if you ever copied a default snapshot to other regions, all subsequent snapshots in the blueprint must also be copied to the same regions.
If you change which one of your existing snapshots is marked as default (see Changing Which Snapshot is the Default ), CloudShare automatically marks it as default on all regions which already have the blueprint. However, you will only be able to do this if the specific snapshot you are marking as default was already copied to all of those regions.
You can always manually copy a snapshot from US East to any other region manually. Once it's copied to all regions that have the blueprint, you will need to mark it as default to be able to use it for new environments, classes and demos.
Go to Blueprints & Snapshots > Snapshot Regions.
If you have a large number of snapshots, use the menu's filter to isolate the snapshot you want to copy, by filtering for the blueprint it belongs to.
Select the snapshot you want to copy, the region to send it to, then click Copy.
The transfer will begin automatically and depending on the size of your snapshot, may take a number of hours to complete. 'Ready' will be displayed in the same Snapshot Regions menu.
If your environment is on Asia Pacific or Europe, copying to other regions is not available. We recommend to refine your master environment on US East and then copy it to other regions.
If your environment is on US East and you do not see regions enabled for automatic copying, that would be because multiple regions are not enabled for the project. Please speak to your sales manager or SE about enabling multiple regions for the project you are working with.
If the blueprint to which you are adding a snapshot already exists on other regions and you are taking a snapshot on a region that does not copy to other regions, you cannot mark the snapshot as default.
To create a default snapshot on multiple regions, refine your environment on US East and then take a snapshot there, choosing to set it as default and copy it.
